Amgen Tour of California Cycles Through LCF

The Tour de France is not for another two months, but La Cañada Flintridge recently received its own taste of cycling competition when the annual Amgen Tour of California passed through the city on Monday afternoon.
After beginning at the Rose Bowl, professional cycling teams pedaled along Berkshire Avenue, Commonwealth Avenue, Lynnhaven Lane and Green Lane before heading up Angeles Crest Highway on their way to Santa Clarita during Stage 2 of the eight-day bike race. Former U.S. road race champion Ben King won the stage, becoming the first American to do so since Taylor Phinney in 2014. King’s victory for his Cannondale team came just four months after he suffered a broken fibula during a training crash.
The Amgen Tour of California, a product of Anschutz Entertainment Group, pits some of the world’s top professional cycling teams against each other in a demanding race across California’s highways, byways and coastlines. Past participants in the spring tradition have included Olympic medalists and Tour de France contenders.
