A strong first half lifted the La Cañada High School varsity girls’ basketball team over host Camarillo, 49-37, in a nonleague game last week.
The Spartans jumped out to a 15-8 lead in the first quarter and carried over its solid play on both ends into the second. La Cañada led 30-14 at the half, but the Scorpions fought back in the second to chip away at the deficit. The Spartans managed to hold off the home squad and come away with the victory.
Zoe Williams led the Spartans with 17 points, 13 rebounds, three steals and two blocks, and Brooke Yasuda added 11 points, two rebounds and two assists. Alexi Nazarian also netted 11 points, Kristina Kurdoghlian turned in an all-around effort with six points, 13 rebounds, three steals and two assists, Tess Oakley-Stilson finished with four points, three rebounds and two steals, Georgia Cervenka grabbed four rebounds and Emma Stroben contributed two rebounds.
La Cañada (11-4 overall record) began Rio Hondo League play against Pasadena Blair on Wednesday. The Spartans will travel to Monrovia to face the Wildcats in a league contest this Friday, Jan. 13, at 5:30 p.m.

Four Rebels scored in double figures to lift Flintridge Prep over host Mayfield Senior, 54-34, in a Prep League game on Monday.
Renae Tamura, Taylor Yoshida and Andie Kim each scored 13 points, Kaitlyn Chen had 10 points, Alex Kyriakakis netted three points and Natalie Benn contributed two points.
Trinity Gomez and Marguerite Irie led the Cubs with 10 points each, and Katherine Tupy added four points. Amanda Mar and Jacqueline Baggott finished with three points each, and Malayna Domingo and Madeleine Biscaichipy contributed two points each.
The Rebels (14-2 overall, 3-0 in league) will travel to Palos Verdes to face Chadwick in a league contest this Friday, Jan. 13, at 6 p.m.

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy fell to 6-11 on the season and will look to bounce back at Los Angeles Marymount today at 6 p.m.

FSHA dropped its second Mission League game of the season on Tuesday, falling to visiting Mission Hills Alemany, 73-40.
Kysa Hayashi led the Tologs with 13 points against the Warriors. Flintridge Sacred Heart fell to 6-12 on the season, including a 0-2 record in Mission League play.
