LCHS Orchestra Students Go on Weekend Retreat

Rachel Gill Maya Vasisht and Kayla Pereira were among the La Cañada High School Advanced Orchestra students at a weekend retreat in early February

Fifty-six LCHS Advanced Orchestra students, their music teacher and four chaperones went up to the Angeles Crest National Forest for a recent two-night retreat.
Students prepared for upcoming performances with rehearsals headed by teacher Jennifer Munday as well as other professional sectional coaches. Students also enjoyed delicious hot meals prepared by Angeles Crest Christian Camp staff, zip lining, basketball, archery and snow play.
Munday, a long-time violinist for the L.A. Chamber Orchestra, said that when students were initially told they could not bring homework and the camp had no WiFi or internet connection, they grumbled.
“I really wanted the students to just connect with one another, relax and play music in a different setting with no academic pressure, for once,” she said. “After the retreat was over, one freshman student admitted, ‘I had a great time hanging out and talking with my classmates and playing music. The sectional coaches were really helpful, too.’”
