Flintridge Prep Falls in Semis

The Flintridge Prep varsity girls’ remarkable postseason run came to an end on Tuesday. The No. 2-seeded Torrance South scored early and often, defeating the host Rebels, 5-2, in a CIF-Southern Section Division 3 semifinal on Tuesday.
The loss snapped an eight-match win streak for Flintridge Prep (22-4-3 overall record). The Rebels outscored their opponents, 46-0, the past six weeks for an average of nearly six goals per match.
The Spartans (18-1-2 overall) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first 20 minutes of action. Mikaela Celeste scored twice in the first half to chip away at the deficit, but South added another score to go into the half with a 4-2 lead.
The Rebels were unable to muster more offense in the second half, ultimately falling to the second seed, 2-1. Julia Gonzalez and Helen Schaefer each recorded an assist for Prep.
Head coach Esteban Chavez guided the Rebels to the Prep League championship with an 8-1-1 record. CIF State playoff pairings will be announced this weekend.
