Spartans Rally to Edge Glendale, 4-3

The La Cañada High School varsity baseball team edged visiting Glendale, 4-3, in a nonleague game last Friday.
The Nitros jumped out to a three-run lead in the top of the first, but it was short-lived as the Spartans countered with three runs of their own to tie the game.
The teams remained in a deadlock until the bottom of the seventh inning. La Cañada managed to muster a game-winning run to improve to 5-3 on the season.
Matthew Sox led the Spartan offense with a triple and two RBIs, and teammate Max Umland added two hits, a run and one RBI. Kyle Mysliviec was 2-for-3 with a run scored, Connor Buchanan finished 1-for-3 with an RBI, Tai Walton scored once, and Jason McCubbin and Tanner Barge contributed one hit each.
Trevor Grey started the game on the mound and allowed three runs on four hits, walked four and struck out three in three innings pitched. Tristan Kalnins tossed the final two innings, struck out three and picked up the win. Brennan Ralphs struck out four, allowed one hit and walked one in two innings of work.
La Cañada will host Monrovia in a Rio Hondo League game this Friday, March 24, at 7 p.m.
