The La Cañada Noontime Kiwanis Club has said that Jeanne Broberg is the 2016 La Cañadan of the Year. Broberg will be honored on Wednesday, April 26, at a special luncheon held at Van de Kamp Hall at Descanso Gardens.
Broberg and her late husband, Dr. Charles Broberg, moved to La Cañada Flintridge in 1970 to raise their family. Her community service has included six terms as a PTA president for several La Cañada schools, and spent seven years as an early-morning seminary teacher for teenagers at their church — the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She has also served as president of the Church Relief Society as well as president of the Young Women’s Organization. In 1993, Broberg was elected to serve on La Cañada Unified School District’s Governing Board and served a total of three terms. She joined the Assistance League of Flintridge in 1987 and served most recently as its president in 2015-16. Her love of genealogy led to her serving as the director of the Crescenta Family History Library in 2006, and she is always willing to help people in La Cañada research their family history.
The public is invited to attend the luncheon, provided by the Kiwanis Club on Wednesday, April 26, at 11:30 a.m. at Van de Kamp Hall at Descanso Gardens. Tickets cost $20, and reservations are required and must be made by April 19. Members of the public are invited to attend and join in honoring this outstanding citizen. For those unable to attend but would like to congratulate Broberg on the honor, tribute messages can be created and shown during the luncheon’s slide presentation.
