With her victory in the Junior Hunter Classic during the 96th annual Flintridge Horse Show, Emily Williams, granddaughter of La Cañada Flintridge resident Porter Williams, was awarded the Liz Blackwelder Perpetual Trophy on Sunday, April 30.
Williams, who rode her horse “Beach Boy” to the victory, has been riding for seven years and trains with David Josiah and Stephanie Hovey of Newhall.
The Flintridge Horse Show is the longest-running continuous horse show in the country. In 2007, the late Liz Blackwelder, a La Cañada Flintridge resident, designed and donated the silver trophy to encourage and inspire young riders. Blackwelder was a founding member of the Flintridge La Cañada Huntington Hospital Guild, a Flintridge Riding Club member, a lifelong equestrian and a dedicated trails advocate.
