Foothill Municipal Water District (Foothill) recently concluded its 6th annual “Water Is Life” student art competition, with three local elementary students named as winners.
Lauren Park, a 2nd-grader at Palm Crest Elementary, won first place; PCR 6th-grader Chia Matsuka took second place; Arra Cho, a Paradise Canyon Elementary 2nd-grader also took second place; and Chloe Calix, a 1st-grader at PCY, garnered honorable recognition.
The contest was open to all students between kindergarten and 12th grade who attend a school located within FMWD’s member agency service area.
FMWD received 115 entries this year, the top 15 of which will be submitted to the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) for further consideration in the 2018 “Water Is Life” student art calendar. Winners will be selected in the fall and honored at a student art exhibit and recognition event.
Judging criteria included consideration of whether the artist addressed the theme of the contest, the originality of the piece and slogan, and the degree of visual and word clarity.
The top local entries will receive further recognition at a FMWD Board of Directors Meeting on May 15, where students will receive prizes including gift certificates from fellow sponsors Los Gringos Locos and the Flintridge Proper.
Foothill Municipal Water District provides imported water to Crescenta Valley Water District, La Cañada Irrigation District, Mesa Crest Water Company, Valley Water Company, Lincoln Avenue Water Company, Las Flores Water Co. and Rubio Cañon Land & Water Association.
