The La Cañada High School varsity baseball team keeps rolling past opponents despite clinching the Rio Hondo League championship two weeks ago. The Spartans didn’t take it easy on visiting Temple City and defeated the Rams, 6-1, on Tuesday to remain perfect in Rio Hondo League play.
La Cañada (20-5 overall record) improved to 11-0 in league play and is currently riding a 10-game winning streak.
Matthew Sox was stellar on the mound, surrendering only one run on three hits and striking out six in a complete-game effort.
Conner Schulz sparked the Spartan offense going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and one run, and Sox helped his own cause with a hit, one RBI and one run. Graham Massimino drove in two runs, Connor Buchanan was 1-for-3 with an RBI, Max Umland and Kyle Mysliviec each had a hit and a run scored, and Tyler Fierro contributed a hit.
The Spartans, ranked No. 2 in CIF Southern Section Division 5, will close out the season at San Marino today at 3:30 p.m.
Arcadia Rio Hondo Prep 9
Flintridge Prep 6
The Rebels fell to host Arcadia Rio Hondo Prep, 9-6, last week and locked in at No. 3 in the Prep League standings.
Flintridge Prep needed a win to remain in the hunt for the second seed from the Prep League, but the Kares’ four-run fourth inning lifted them over the Rebels to secure second place.
Max Rosenfeld was dealt the loss after allowing seven runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks. Thomas Kosakowski pitched 1 1/3 innings of relief and allowed two runs (one earned) on a hit. Aidan Schraeder tossed an inning and surrendered only one hit.
Nick Davis led Prep’s offense going 3-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs, and Bradley Noble also collected three hits, including a double. Rosenfeld drove in a run, Kendall Kikkawa was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Danny Chiarodit had a hit and scored a run, and Brian Pipes contributed a hit.
Flintridge Prep (13-7-1 overall, 6-5) concluded the regular season at home against Lynwood Firebaugh on Wednesday.

Sherman Oaks St. Francis 2
The Golden Knights fell to visiting Notre Dame, 13-2, at the Glendale Sports Complex on Monday.
Pitcher Evan Tontini was dealt the loss after allowing seven runs on six hits and four walks in 2 2/3 innings.
Doyle Kane drove in a run and hit a single, and Christian Muro and Brandon Lewis each belted a double and scored a run.
St. Francis (8-19 overall, 5-11 in league) will close out the regular season at home against the Knights today at 6 p.m.
