The Pinto 8 La Cañada Flintridge Spartans kicked of their tournament team baseball season in a big way at the Cheviot Hills Memorial Weekend Classic, bringing their style of play to the Westside and dominating the competition.
The local squad was a perfect 4-0 in the tournament and outscored its opponents, 42-10, to bring home the championship.
The La Cañada pitching staff, consisting of Austin Loughrin, Will Park, Fritz Phillips, Benji Geller, Trevor Rivas and Finn Flower-Hogan, rose to the occasion and punched out 38 batters to go along with a paltry nine walks. One of the highlights was Flower-Hogan slamming the door on Santa Monica with three overpowering innings in the championship game.
Not to be outdone, the LC offense brought its lumber as well. Multiple hits and RBIs were turned in by Rivas, Chase Regan, Park, Nick Pieper, Flower-Hogan, Loughrin, Taylor Parrille, Geller, Jack Harlan, Scotty Burns, and Skyler Henry. Not wanting to abandon his team, Donovan Udell overcame illness and contributed mightily with his bat and glove.
The Spartans move on to compete in the Newport Harbor Tournament this weekend.
