La Cañada High School Assistant Principal Mary Hazlett resigned on Wednesday to accept an assistant principal position at Agoura High School in Agoura Hills next school year, according to a news release from La Cañada Unified School District Superintendent Wendy Sinnette.
At LCHS, Hazlett served as assistant principal of discipline, athletics and activities for two years. In that time, she made several improvements in practices related to student service, Sinnette said.
During her tenure, Hazlett introduced the Link Crew program to LCHS and LCHS 7/8, in an effort to connect incoming freshmen with upper-grade mentors on campus. She also helped coordinate this year’s “Every 15 Minutes” program aimed at curtailing teen drinking and driving.
Hazlett grew up in Glendale, and would make frequent visits to LCF, she said when she was hired for the LCHS position in 2015.
“I am very good at solving problems and handling projects, serving the community and leading a successful team,” Hazlett said then. “I’m so honored that you mentioned a strong work ethic. I demand a high standard and high performance from myself and everyone around me.”
Her new position is expected to focus on student activities, a familiar area for Hazlett, who served as ASB activities director and Link Crew coordinator at Glendale High School before arriving at LCHS.
“She will be missed and we wish her every success in her new position,” Sinnette said.
She added that the district posted a job vacancy Wednesday for Hazlett’s position. The district, Sinnette said, “is searching for the highest qualified candidate to fill this position.”
