Assistance League of Flintridge recently worked with Maral Sousani, a counselor with the Foster Youth Achievement Program in Student Health and Human Services at Los Angeles Unified School District, and Christina Castro, a counselor in the Los Angeles County Office of Education, Foster Youth Services Coordinating Program, to reach out to foster care youth.
Nine area foster teens were identified, all of whom are graduating from high school and determined to continue their education. Sousani, Castro and ALF compiled a wish list of items needed by these teens as they set out on the next phase in their lives. “Our committee identified these young persons as being deserving of extra support at this transition in their lives,” said Linda Gill, Community Needs Assessment and Outreach Committee Chair.
Each young person was provided a laptop computer and a protective sleeve, as well as bedding, including sheets, pillow cases and comforter. Items such as coffee makers, office supplies, household items and hygiene products were also provided.
