La Cañada Elementary School 1st-graders recently spent a sunny, fall day at Descanso Gardens. Teachers, staff and parents joined the students as they walked to the gardens. Placed in small groups and working with an adult, students had their clipboards in hand and tasks to complete. They had to answer questions about plants, animals, insects, complete a bark-rubbing picture and draw colorful leaves. After their assignment was completed, they enjoyed lunch under the oaks before walking back to school
