Community Rallies After Neighbors Lose Relative in Fire

Neighbors rallied in support of a La Cañada Flintridge family who lost a grandmother and likely their home in a house fire on the evening of March 8. Officials are investigating the fire.
Multiple firefighting units responded to the scene last week, lining the cul de sac in the 1000 block of Fairview Avenue, neighbor Justin Strassburg said.
The Strassburgs, along with the Greens and the Tsos, quickly set up a GoFundMe.com account to raise money to support the victims with basic needs such as food, clothes, shoes and shelter.
Within three hours, the crowdfunding effort raised $9,383, far surpassing the $5,000 goal.
“It’s just terrible,” Justin Strassburg said. “They’re a quiet family but they’re always nice and they let my little kids play on their basketball hoop, really nice people. So we just did what anybody else would do for us in this neighborhood.
“And everyone was very supportive, we look out for each other in this town. Hopefully they can get back on their feet.”
