A married couple were robbed of a wallet, cellphone and keys at gunpoint on Saturday afternoon in La Cañada Flintridge, and authorities believe the two suspects also committed similar crimes the same day in Burbank and Highland Park.
Capt. Chris Blasnek of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station said the armed robbery on Earlmont Avenue was the first of the three holdups by the two men, who were driving an orange pickup truck.
“My belief is they got maybe off the [2] Freeway, went right up in the neighborhood and found a man and a woman to rob,” Blasnek said at the LCF City Council meeting on Tuesday. Afterward, the suspects went to Burbank and Highland Park and robbed again, he said.
The victims in LCF were uninjured, authorities said.
“They’ve got some good video in Burbank to assist us with this,” Blasnek said. “I assume since we’re working with three other agencies on this we’ll probably have them in custody also. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
“I think it was an anomaly that day. We haven’t had anything like that in a long time. … We don’t see too many orange pickup trucks.”
The LCF crime occurred at 12:36 p.m. in the 1700 block of Earlmont, said Sgt. Alan Chu, a detective at the Crescenta Valley station.
A man and woman got out of their car at the location and the orange Dodge Ram approached them, Chu said.
Two men carrying guns and wearing bandanas covering their faces got out of the truck and demanded the couple’s wallet and money, said Chu.
The first suspect pointed a black handgun and the second produced a silver and chrome handgun, Chu said.
The man who carried the black gun was described as Hispanic and in his early 20s, with dark hair, dark eyes and medium build, and standing between 5 feet 8 and 5 feet 10. He wore a white shirt and blue jeans, and the bandana covered his mouth and jaw, Chu said.
The second man was described as Hispanic and in his early 20s, with dark hair and dark eyes, and standing between 5 feet 7 and 5 feet 9. He has a thin build, Chu said.
After the robbery, the men drove east toward Alta Canyada Road but made a U-turn and headed west toward Hillard Avenue, Chu said.
He said the crime was isolated and unusual.
“I need to talk to the victims,” Chu said. “It’s odd and out of nowhere. That’s not a big street. It’s a little street right up in the hills, and this happened. They weren’t waiting for them. … I haven’t seen this before.”
