St. Francis Edges La Cañada in Battle of Foothill Blvd.

The St. Francis varsity boys’ basketball team won the Battle of Foothill Blvd. by defeating local rival La Cañada, 52-50, in a nonleague game last Friday.
The Golden Knights (12-2 overall record) limited the opposition to only 16 points in the first half, allowing them to build a 13-point lead after two quarters of play.

La Cañada (10-5 overall) attempted a comeback in the final quarter but St. Francis managed to hold off the home squad for the win and bragging rights.
Andre Henry led St. Francis with 16 points and five assists and Jason Gallant added 13 points. Dennis Flowers III chipped in 10 points.
Ryan Graves led the Spartans with 25 points and Ryan Grande hit four of eight shots from beyond the arc for a total of 12 points. Zach Feehan netted six points and grabbed 14 rebounds, and Jake George chipped in three points and seven assists. Kyle Brown struggled from the field, shooting 2-of-13 for four points.
La Cañada, ranked No. 4 in CIF Southern Section 2A, will travel to La Verne to compete in the prestigous tournament known as The Classic at Damien. The Spartans were placed in the silver bracket and took on Ponderosa High of Shingle Springs on Wednesday. The three-day tourney will be the Spartans’ final preseason competition before Rio Hondo League play.

The Golden Knights, ranked No. 4 in CIF-SS Division 3AA, went on to defeat Pasadena Muir, 66-54, in a nonleague game on Saturday, Dec. 22. They will travel to La Puente to compete in the Nogales Tournament this week.

A.J. Nicassio scored a career-high 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and led the Rebels to a 50-43 victory over Los Angeles Yeshiva last Saturday.
Matthew Ho added 12 points and Kevin Ashworth chipped in six points. Zach Luu netted three points and Jack Cartwright and Zach Kim contributed two points each.
The Rebels (6-5 overall) will travel to San Diego to compete in the Torrey Pines Tournament.
