The Kiwanis Club of La Cañada La Crescenta-AM recently met with masks and social distancing at a member’s backyard for the annual budget meeting. The board voted to present a $3,000 check to support a request from Lynn McGinnis, president of Verdugo Hills Memorial Hall and past commander of Verdugo Hills American Legion Post 288.
The hall, which was built in 1925 and relocated to its current site a decade later because of the 1934 floods, has supported many regional youth groups, school groups and nonprofit organizations in the Foothills. All youth groups use the hall rent-free.
It is now necessary to modernize the parking lot to eliminate safety issues and bring it into ADA compliance. It is an expensive endeavor at $59,000. A Go Fund Me account has been established for those who would like to contribute. For additional information, call Lynn McGinnis at (818) 242-3487.
The Kiwanis Club of La Cañada La Crescenta-AM is a service club to help those in need. The organization holds a Zoom meeting every Wednesday morning at 8 a.m. Anyone interested in visiting the club may email Sydni Taylor at sydnitaylor@kw.com.
