Meredith Reynolds, who passed away Feb. 24 at age 67 following decades of service to the community, has had a GoFundMe page set up in her honor to benefit childhood cancer research.
Among her many leadership positions over the decades, she served as a La Cañada Unified School District Governing Board member and was also the first female president of the LCF Educational Foundation in the 1988-89 and 1989-90 school years.
“She was extraordinary in so many ways: scholar, collegiate athlete, lawyer, child advocate, community activist, mentor, counselor, friend, wife and mother,” her husband Tom wrote in a statement. “She will be missed by friends and foes alike.
“Meredith was diagnosed in the fall of 2020 with Duodenal Adenocarcinoma and she fought like the ‘warrior chick’ she was,” Tom added. “Meredith never stopped sharing her wisdom, humor, sparkle and love until the day she left us.
“The only request Meredith made was, ‘I want to give money to childhood cancer research. I don’t want any child to go through this.’ So…we are asking our friends and family to fulfill her wish and spread her sparkle by joining us in giving to this cause.”
The goal is to raise $67,000 in the memory of Meredith. Why that amount?
“On each birthday she said, ‘I am grateful for another year’ and celebrated,” Tom Reynolds said. “So our goal is to raise $1,000 in honor of each of those precious years.”
“At her core, she was a ‘schoolie’ and worked tirelessly to help children. In every leadership role, Meredith started by asking, ‘What is best for the child?’ to determine her next steps.

“Furthermore, Meredith requested a true celebration of her life with friends, family, music and beautiful flowers…when it is safe!” Tom added. “Gather your memories and stay tuned for more details. If we surpass our goal, this [additional] money will go to the best party, in the best backyard, with the best people, to celebrate the best woman’s amazing life!
“Meredith was brave, kind, thoughtful and strong throughout her fight, and often reflected on what a beautiful life she had. Yet this perspective wasn’t a new one for her. This is how she lived, reminding us with the toast in our last days with her, ‘Enjoy every day, in every way.’
“Honor Meredith and let’s raise money for childhood cancer research,” Tom said.
