LCHS, Flintridge Prep, St. Francis Collect Wins

The La Cañada High School varsity boys’ volleyball team remained undefeated in Rio Hondo League play by defeating visiting Temple City, 25-14, 25-14, 25-13, on Tuesday afternoon. The victory helped the Spartans maintain their first-place standing with a sparkling 5-0 record (16-4 overall) while extending their win streak to six matches.
“I am just really proud of our progress,” LCHS head coach Laura Browder said. “We believe that every point is a way to prepare for every game, so there is never a moment where we are not preparing in practice or even against Temple City.”
Senior Korbin Christoph led with 11 kills and one block, freshman Jacob Que collected nine kills and three blocks, and senior Ben Aydia tallied seven kills and three blocks. Senior Chase Lin recorded six kills and two aces, sophomore Jared Yang finished with two aces and two kills, and sophomore Parker Petroc had two aces.
La Cañada won its second road game in as many days by sweeping San Marino, 25-19, 26-24, 25-21, in a league game last Thursday as Christoph amassed 18 kills, one block and one ace. Lin collected six kills and four blocks, Aydia registered one kill, five blocks and one ace, and Yang and Petroc each had one ace.
“I am just really proud of our senior class; we have incredible guys on our team that are leading on and off the court. I am just trying to treasure these last couple of matches with them because they are a special group.”
The Spartans previously defeated Monrovia in four sets, 25-22, 25-21, 21-25, 25-16, on Wednesday, March 16.
La Cañada, ranked No. 5 in the March 14 CIF-SS Division III poll, is scheduled to host South Pasadena in a rematch on Thursday, March 24, at 5 p.m. The last meeting between the Spartans and the Tigers resulted in an LCHS victory earlier this month.

FLINTRIDGE PREP
The Flintridge Prep varsity boys’ volleyball team defeated crosstown rival Pasadena Poly, 18-25, 25-15, 25-13, 25-16, in a Prep League match last Thursday. The visiting Wolves swept Palos Verdes Chadwick, 25-7, 25-9, 25-15, in a league match last Tuesday. No individual statistics were reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
The league victories helped the Wolves (10-1 overall, 2-0 in league) remain tied with undefeated Burbank Providence atop the league standings, with the first of two matchups between the schools set for Thursday, March 31, at 4:30 p.m.

ST. FRANCIS
The Golden Knights swept visiting Encino Crespi, 25-14, 25-20, 25-11, to open Mission League action last Tuesday.
Freshman outside hitter Ryan Bender collected 12 kills and three digs while senior captain Robert Nardoni registered 10 kills and six digs. Junior middle blocker James Clapp posted eight kills, one ace, three blocks and five digs, senior opposite hitter Vince Ciampa recorded five kills and four blocks, and junior setter Gabe Metcalf tallied 33 assists, seven digs, two aces and one kill. Senior middle hitter Ben Ferguson finished with four kills and three blocks, while junior middle blocker Blake Welsh and sophomore outside hitter Will Martinez each had one kill. Junior libero Drew Miller, junior libero Trevor Shackleton and junior setter Aj Lopez each notched five digs.
Visiting St. Francis was swept at Redondo Union High in Redondo Beach, 22-25, 16-25, 20-25, in a nonleague match last Monday. Clapp registered nine kills, Nardoni collected eight kills and four digs, and Metcalf posted 27 assists, four digs and two kills. Bender recorded seven kills and three digs, Martinez added three kills, and Welsh, Ciampa and Miller each notched one kill. Shackleton finished with two aces and four digs, while Lopez had four digs.
The Golden Knights (10-4-1 overall, 1-0 in league), who are ranked No. 17 in the March 14 CIF-SS Division 1/2 poll, are scheduled to visit Mission Hills Alemany in a league match on Thursday, March 24, at 6 p.m.
