LCF Chamber Offering Hillgren Scholarship

Applications are now being accepted for the O. Warren Hillgren Memorial Scholarship, given by the La Cañada Flintridge Chamber of Commerce and Community Association.
Deadline to submit an application and a 200-word essay is by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26. Applications should be mail or turn in to the chamber office, One Civic Center Drive, Suite A, La Cañada Flintridge.
Hillgren strongly believed in the public education system and encouraged students wherever possible. He was also an advocate of community service and free enterprise, and believed it was both an obligation and a privilege to be able to contribute to the betterment of one’s community.
Hillgren was a founding father of La Cañada Flintridge and was the city’s mayor in 1978. He also served as the chamber’s chairman in 1976, the year La Cañada Flintridge attained cityhood.
The $1,000 Hillgren scholarship will be awarded based on merit, which includes excellence in academics, character, extracurricular school activities, community service and/or athletics.
Special consideration shall be given in the weighting of the candidate’s experience, such as further involvement with the local business community, aptitude for business entrepreneurship and commercial enterprise consistent with the values stated above.
Applicants must be citizens of the United States and a senior in good standing at La Cañada High School.
