Questioning Candidate’s Request for Fee Waiver

First published in the April 21 print issue of the Outlook Valley Sun.

Along with the La Cañada Welcome Association, Kim Bowman, a current Parks and Recreation Commissioner, is sponsoring a “movie night” at Memorial Park. Bowman is also running for La Cañada City Council.
At their most recent meeting, the Parks and Rec Commissioners expressed the “timing of the event,” just weeks before the election, as questionable, and they voted to deny Bowman’s application for a fee waiver, although the city ultimately approved the permit.
We agree with the commission that the timing is questionable and also believe it’s a conflict of interest for Bowman to use his association with the LCWA, as well as his position on the PRC, for a fee waiver while running for higher office.
