Alec Melidonian, a 6th-grader at Paradise Canyon Elementary School, coordinated a bike-a-thon and relay race fund raiser supporting One Bicycle Foundation.
The PCY students and families came out in support, riding through the bike course oncampus, which was a thrill for the students. They also enjoyed the inflatable climbing wall and slide.
Melidonian was inspired when he met and helped Co-founder/CEO Sebouh Bazikian of the One Bicycle Foundation, which has donated bikes to children in Armenia, Kenya and other nations. “It seemed simple to do, so I did it,” Melidonian said.
As a result of the bike-a-thon, the event raised $5,000, which will provide bicycles to students in Nigeria. “I am thankful for the support of my classmates, parents and grandparents,” Melidonian said. “We all made a difference today.”
