Local Swimmers Compete in State Finals

Members of the La Cañada High School, Flintridge Prep and St. Francis High School swimming and diving teams made the cut for the CIF State Championships and traveled to Fresno to participate in last weekend’s competitive finals.
Five Spartans trekked out to Clovis West High and recorded four top-10 finishes. Maksymilian Sawoniewicz led LCHS by placing sixth in the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 555.75, and Pierce O’Grady contributed a ninth-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4 minutes, 30.41 seconds. Ryan Makouar participated in the 100 butterfly and finished in 49.34 for ninth place.
O’Grady and Makouar teamed up with Braden Beagle and Igor Benderskii for two relay races. The quartet placed eighth in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:32.70 and then raced in the 400 free relay, where they posted a time of 3:03.83 for 11th place.
Flintridge Prep freshmen Natalie Walklett and Addie Gish also moved on to compete in the CIF State championships in Fresno and qualified for finals. Walklett was 10th in the 200 free with a time of 1:51.04 and Gish posted a time of 56.53 in the 100 back, which was good for 14th place.
Nathan Kim represented St. Francis in the state finals and placed ninth in the 100 free (44.93) and 11th in the 200 free (1:39.57).
