Local Athletes Shine in CIF Finals

The La Cañada High School varsity track and field teams collected high marks in the CIF-SS Division III girls’ and boys’ events at Moorpark High last Saturday.
The Spartan girls tied Monrovia for ninth place with 20 total points, as sophomore Arielle Mckenzie led the way by winning the 800-meter run with a 2:11.15 time.
The 4×400 meter relay team of junior Grace Paton, sophomore Katelyn Matarese, sophomore Brittany Rivas, sophomore Arielle Mckenzie, sophomore Yasmin Ghaneh and Catherine Mispagel posted a fourth-place finish with a 3:59.58 time, while sophomore Brittany Rivas placed fifth in the 300-meter hurdles with a 48.19 time.
Meanwhile, the LCHS boys’ team tied Pacifica High of Garden Grove and Hillcrest High of Riverside for 24th with five total points. The 4×400 meter relay team of junior Samuel Parks, sophomore Jamie Saunders, senior Ethan Lee, sophomore Mentoa Mckenzie, senior Zain Bangash and freshman Eric Sentoso claimed sixth with a 3:26.79 time, while the 4×100 team of senior Zain Bangash, sophomore Mentoa Mckenzie, senior Ulee Day, junior Corey Cheung, sophomore Jamie Saunders and junior Samuel Parks placed seventh with a 43.46 time.

FLINTRIDGE PREP
The Wolves scored 12 total points to tie for 20th overall with Polytechnic and Ontario Christian High of Ontario in the CIF-SS Division IV girls’ track and field events at Moorpark High School on Saturday.
Senior Chase Sullivan claimed second in the triple jump with a 36-01.00 mark while also placing fifth in the long jump with a 16-09.75 mark.
Meanwhile, sophomore Kevin Martinez (44.67) finished ninth in the boys’ Division IV 300-meter hurdles.

FLINTRIDGE SACRED HEART
The Tologs scored two total points to place 36th overall in the CIF-SS Division IV girls’ track and field events at Moorpark on Saturday as senior Ella Venne placed seventh in the high jump with a 4-06.00 mark.
