Decker, Davitt Are the Way to Vote

First published in the May 26 print issue of the Outlook Valley Sun.

Are you, as I am, sick of the savage partisanship that is ravaging our country?
We can no longer have reasonable discussions with everyone giving a little to move toward solutions for the greater good. I see that same partisanship trickling into the campaign for City Council, and it worries me greatly.
One candidate is endorsed by the left, elected-legislature establishment. One candidate is a self-proclaimed conservative whose past rants on social media leave little doubt where he stands. Indeed, the supporters of both these candidates are at it tooth and nail on Facebook.
Our City Council has been so successful because historically it has been non-partisan. For the good of our community, it should remain so.
There are two candidates who should be elected. Marija Decker is a smart, reasonable, moderate and with local government experience on the Parks and Recreation Commission. Indeed, one of her fellow commissioners say she “has made the greatest impact on the commission of any commissioner I have ever worked with.” She is an attorney, a community volunteer and a mom. Most importantly, and because she is all of the above, she would be the much-needed second woman’s voice and perspective on the council.
Mike Davitt deserves to be re-elected. He, too, is a thoughtful moderate who has served our community well.
Do not let partisan candidates bring their agendas to the council. Keep our City Council as a functioning unit solely focused on the good of our community. For the continued health of our city, I urge you to vote for the two M.D.s: Marija Decker and Mike Davitt.

Laura Olhasso
Former mayor, councilwoman of La Cañada Flintridge
