Becky Gelhaar was recently named Woman of the Year from the 28th Congressional District by Rep. Adam Schiff.
After teaching high school physical education, she and her husband, Chuck, moved to La Cañada Flintridge in the mid-1960s, where they raised their two daughters. She joined the Newcomers Club and, with other club members, co-founded the La Cañada Junior Women’s Club, serving on many committees.
She also became involved in other organizations, such as the American Red Cross, serving as president of the La Cañada Flintridge chapter and on the board of the Pasadena chapter.
Active in the PTA organizations, she has held several key positions, including serving as La Cañada High School 7/8 PTA president, on the PTA Council and on the board of the La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation. She was also a Girl Scout leader and served on the Girl Scout Council.
She’s also been involved in OM chapter of the Philanthropic Education Organization, or P.E.O., the La Cañada Flintridge Delta Gamma alumnae group and, as a result of her interest in gardening, La Cañada Beautiful.
In addition, Gelhaar has been involved with the Assistance League of Flintridge for more than three decades and the La Cañada Flintridge Coordinating Council for more than two decades.
Her most recent activity is as corresponding secretary for the Daughters of the American Revolution. She has received the PTA Service Award and the Les Tupper Community Service Award.
