First published in the June 23 print issue of the Outlook Valley Sun.

La Cañada Guild members recently attended the Orthopaedic Institute for Children Gala at Paramount Studios when the largest gift in the organization’s 112-year history — $15 million — was announced. The staggering sum will help assure that children with a musculoskeletal condition or injury “have the opportunity to grow well and play well,” a spokesperson said.
Local members attending the gala were co-Presidents Arlene Massimino and Caryl Pettit along with Jeanne Long, Joanne and Ron Ploszaj, Joan Cleven, Ginney Pruitt, Alicia Thompson, DeeDee Nuanes, Marie Baker, and Danette and Kerry Erickson.
The $15-million gift from Renee and Meyer Luskin to support OIC’s commitment to patient care, scientific research and education. In recognition and gratitude, the organization has renamed itself the Luskin Orthopaedic Institute for Children.
