Posts Embrace Generational Duty to Security

Some say you can’t pick your family, but when it comes to Post Alarm that’s often not the case.
For this customer-oriented business, its clients have a history of doing exactly that — choosing Post Alarm to be a part of their family. From its humble beginnings in 1956 to becoming one of Southern California’s largest full-service security companies, the same is true today.
Post Alarm is still there for its clientele, old and new — many times going above and beyond the call of duty. That passion to provide safety and comfort is rooted in the foundation that the late Sam Post, company founder and former Colorado police chief, established and passed on to his son, Bill Post, who took over and grew the business with his wife, Lois, in the 1970s.
Now, into its third generation of Posts — owned by brother and sister Rob Post and Gina Post-Franco — the family-run company continues to supply peace of mind to households and businesses under their protection.
“With all of the hard work and sacrifices our grandparents and parents made — it’s truly an honor that they trust us with the business and to take care of clients,” Gina Post-Franco said. “We want to do a really great job and continue forward and do this for generations to come.”

Although the 66-year-old business is headquartered in Arcadia, it serves communities in La Cañada Flintridge, Glendale, Burbank, San Marino, South Pasadena, Pasadena and beyond.
Post Alarm’s services include locally owned and operated 24/7 in-house monitoring, patrol, medical alert, fire detection, Wi-Fi security and Night Shield, which entails night vision cameras that can distinguish between people, vehicles and animals. The company is UL Listed, BBB business accredited and has a Five Diamond status from the Monitoring Association.
The Post siblings grew up in the business much like their father did — observing and soaking in all aspects of their parents’ line of work. From Gina Post-Franco and Rob Post’s youth, getting involved was the norm, and in adulthood, after college and pursuing careers in consulting and accounting, respectively, their built-in passion for the family business would eventually steer them back in that direction.
“When I was doing public accounting, working 18-plus hours a day and putting all that time into someone else’s company, it hit me that I would really love to take that time and effort into our family business,” Rob Post said.
Bringing what they learned from their outside professional experiences to Post Alarm helped the brother and sister team further expand the company and take it to another level. Likewise, it is the work ethic they learned in adolescence from their father that helped shape their own.
“Dad was doing the bills, the installs, going to school at night, getting only a few hours of sleep — just working hard to have a company like that, so Gina and I take this seriously and we are working hard just like our parents did,” Rob Post said.
“Our dad is a reflection of our grandpa,” Gina Post-Franco added. “He has taught us so much about work ethic, taking care of the client on a business level, but also really being there for each and every client personally.”
Second-generation owner Bill Post said his family’s one-on-one level of care is unique to Post Alarm, because clients can call anytime and speak to a Post if they need to.
“Companies in our industry have been so impersonal — often you deal with machines, don’t talk to people and can’t make relationships — and we’ve fought that off and maintained our personalized quality of service,” Bill Post said. “It’s a lot easier to have a machine do it and not have to hire people to do it, but people want to talk to people, not machines.
“I think everyone likes it when they are dealing with people they have a relationship with — who they consider to be family,” he added.
Bill Post said being connected to a company that prides itself on dependability is rewarding.
“They count on us and trust us,” he said about Post Alarm’s clients. “That’s what it’s all about — helping them, taking care of them and making them feel comfortable, so they can enjoy their lives.”
Bill Post recalled a late-night call from a client who fell through a plate-glass window at their business. While the client was transported to the hospital with severe cuts, Bill Post boarded up the business in the aftermath of the accident, unbeknownst to the client.
This moment is only one of many where Post Alarm has been a support system for clients in need.
“At the core of what we do, it means so much to us that people trust us with their security,” Gina Post-Franco said. “That’s a huge responsibility and we are so honored that they have chosen us. We always want to go above and beyond for them.
“Anytime we get a personal phone call, where we help someone through a very scary situation or prevent something bad from happening to them — every time, it just sits so deep in my soul and it makes me feel so good about what we do,” she added.
However, the family bond at Post Alarm doesn’t end with its clients. It extends to its employees, some of whom have introduced their children to the company who were later hired down the road — contributing to the family ties that run deep.
Beyond its dedication to intercepting crime, Post Alarm supports child-focused community charities such as the Boys & Girls Club and the Harambe Foundation.
“In charity, the youth is where we want to invest in — that’s where the future is,” Rob Post said. “Allowing these kids to dream big lets them know that if they set their goals high, they can achieve anything.”
Watching his children carry on the family’s legacy leaves Bill Post filled-to-the-brim with pride.
“I’m so dang proud of them, I can’t handle it,” he said. “It just amazes Lois and I how great they are.”
Under their leadership, the pair strives to take the business straight to the top.
“We want Post Alarm to be known as the only security company in Southern California based on quality, customer service, innovation and product,” Rob Post said. “We are going to be the No. 1 company people choose to protect them, their homes and their businesses. We just keep trying to think of different ways, with cameras and the technology that’s out there to help prevent crimes from happening.”
As it moves up, one thing is for certain, Post Alarm’s devotion to keeping communities safe will always be its driving force.
“If we can help someone sleep better at night, wow, what a gift,” Gina Post-Franco said.
