Neighbor Steps Up to Revive Planter Boxes

First published in the July 28 print issue of the Outlook Valley Sun.

At the La Cañada City Trailhead on Indiana Street, next to Armstrong’s Nursery, are a pair of planter boxes built in 2010 by Boy Scout Troop 507 as part of a young man’s Eagle project. As this young man moved on in life, attention to the boxes waned and they were taken over by weeds. Most of the original plants died.
About a year ago a nearby neighbor dug out the boxes and planted new perennials with bark chip mulch. A couple of times per week he carries buckets of water as needed and weeds the boxes. Once again these boxes are an attractive and fitting entrance to the city trail head. Thanks, neighbor!
