Lutheran Church Collects Clothing, School Supplies

First published in the Aug. 11 print issue of the Outlook Valley Sun.

Lutheran Church in the Foothills would like to remind the community that its clothing drive for the needy is still underway.
All different kinds of gently worn clothes are accepted and will be appreciated. Each time a full load of items is received at the church, it is delivered to local charities, including Union Rescue Mission. According to the church, all the charities have been very grateful for the donations.
A drive to collect school supplies for children in need continues as well. The church is assembling kits and donations are appreciated. If community members are interested in offering help, the church asks that they drop off the following items at the church: 70-page spiral notebooks, erasers, unsharpened pencils and crayons (boxes of 16 or 24 only), and blue and black pens (not gel). The church has received plenty of rulers, pencil sharpeners and scissors.
LCIF is also responding to the urgent need for blood donations. LCIF will hold a blood drive in its Fellowship Hall on Aug. 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. According to the American Red Cross, every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood and/or platelets. Supply can’t always meet demand because only about 3% of age-eligible people donate blood yearly. Each new donor helps the Red Cross meet patient needs. Those who would like to donate at the blood drive can make an appointment at redcrossblood.org.
Visit lcifoothills.org for event details, including small group gatherings and opportunities to serve. For more information or to request/offer help, email office@lcifoothills.org, or call (818) 790-1951. The church is located at 1700 Foothill Blvd. in La Cañada Flintridge. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.
