The La Cañada High School varsity football team had a bye last week and will open Rio Hondo League action by hosting San Marino on Friday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m.
The Spartans (3-2 overall) haven’t fared particularly well against the Titans (2-3) over the last decade, losing seven of their last nine contests since 2012 (The teams did not play in the pandemic-shortened 2020-21 campaign.)
However, LCHS edged SMHS last year, 46-43, and enters play with a seemingly healthier and more capable roster than the visiting Titans.
ST. FRANCIS
The St. Francis High School varsity football team had a bye last week and will open Angelus League play by hosting Paraclete High of Lancaster on Friday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m.
The Golden Knights (2-3 overall) have struggled on defense during the nonleague portion of their schedule, as opponents averaged 42 points per game. However, St. Francis is coming off a dominant 41-0 shutout against Muir High of Pasadena the previous week and will battle a Paraclete squad that remains winless this season.
