St. Francis Defeats Cathedral, Remain Unbeaten in League

The St. Francis High School varsity football team remained undefeated in Angelus League action by defeating host Cathedral High in Los Angeles, 48-39, last Friday.
Senior quarterback Jack Jacobs completed 12-of-18 passes for 211 yards and a pair of touchdowns while rushing for 59 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries. Senior Devyn Turner rushed for 80 yards on 11 carries and scored a pair of touchdowns.
Senior Antonio Merlos had five receptions for 88 yards and a touchdown, while senior DruShun Phillips had a pair of catches for 12 yards and a touchdown with three tackles on defense. Junior John Calmette had three receptions for 29 yards, ran for 13 yards on five carries and made six tackles on defense. Senior Jett Mccullough made a pair of catches for 82 yards, and junior kicker Alexander Ang went 6-for-6 in PAT attempts.
Junior Preston Jernegan led the team with 11 tackles and an interception, sophomore Julian Navarro registered eight tackles, and senior Ryan Doerfler had six tackles. Sophomore Jamie Lawyer made five tackles, junior Adam Sandoval registered four tackles and an interception, and senior Hank Foley made three tackles. Senior Michael Gordo and junior Alex Juarez each registered a pair of tackles, while junior Nizam Nama had one tackle.
The Golden Knights (5-2 overall, 2-0 in league) will look to remain undefeated in league when they host winless Crespi High of Encino (0-7 overall, 0-2 in league) on Friday, Oct. 14, at 7 p.m.
