We Should Consider a Citywide Waste-Hauler

First published in the Nov. 10 print issue of the Outlook Valley Sun.

More than 90% of L.A. County cities use a single-waste hauler company.
We have three. That means most of us have 18 trash trucks driving past our homes every pick-up day. An exclusive, residential citywide waste hauler would result in six trash trucks going past our homes, reducing the noise, air pollution, street damage and safety concerns by 66%.
It is likely that the additional street damage is more than $200,000 each year, with 90% of our streets having no sidewalks. Our streets are our sidewalks. So those walking our dogs and kids on bikes, skateboards, rollerblades, etc., have to avoid the waste-hauler trucks.
The City Council needs this item on its agenda.
