Spartans To Host FSHA in Rivalry on Tuesday

The La Cañada High School varsity girls’ soccer team lost its first game of the season after being edged by Mayfield Senior of Pasadena, 3-2, in a nonleague game at Occidental College last Thursday.
Senior Atziri Fernandez Orozco and freshman Samantha Hosford each scored once, while sophomore goalie Montana LaBarge had three saves.
The Spartans previously routed visiting Glendale, 5-0, in a nonleague game. Senior Grace Paton registered a pair of goals while senior Chia Matuska, sophomore Julia Sada and Hosford each added one goal. Meanwhile, LaBarge recorded three saves in the cage.
LCHS (2-1 overall) will host Newbury Park in a nonleague game on Thursday, Dec. 8, at 5 p.m., before hosting Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy in a nonleague matchup on Tuesday, Dec. 13.

FLINTRIDGE SACRED HEART

The Tologs swept their opponents at the Back Bay Invite, finishing with a 3-1 victory over Madera South High of Madera on Saturday.
Junior Sachiko Kaneko-Grun finished with a goal and an assist, while freshmen Mika Kaneko-Grun and Ave Jones each scored once. Junior goalie Morgan Birkett registered 15 saves, while senior Therese Daniels was credited with an assist.
The Tologs edged Morro Bay, 4-3, earlier on Saturday. Julia Vazquez led with a pair of goals, while Birkett had 10 saves. Sachiko Kaneko-Grun tallied a goal and a pair of assists, senior Erika Caballero scored once and senior Annamaria Vazquez was credited with an assist.
FSHA blanked Montgomery High of Santa Rosa, 1-0, in its tournament opener last Friday. Julia Vazquez scored the deciding goal, while Sachiko Kaneko-Grun was credited with an assist on the play. Meanwhile, Birkett made five crucial saves in the cage to earn the shutout.
The Tologs previously routed host Monrovia, 4-1, in their nonleague regular-season opener, as Julia Vazquez registered a pair of goals and an assist. Junior Francesca Anderson finished with a goal and an assist, while Sachiko Kaneko-Grun was credited with three assists. Caballero scored once, while Birkett posted three saves.
FSHA (4-0 overall) is scheduled to host Immaculate Heart High of Los Angeles in a nonleague game at the Glendale Sports Complex on Thursday, Dec. 8, at 3:30 p.m., followed by a string of three consecutive road matchups.

FLINTRIDGE PREP

The Wolves pulled off the comeback to win their season opener over visiting Temple City, 2-1, last Tuesday.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first half, senior Sage Shurman and freshman Scarlett Coombes each scored a goal to help propel Flintridge Prep to victory. Shurman was credited with an assist on Coombes’ goal, while senior goalie Ana Bozzi-Mackay earned the win after spending 80 minutes in the cage.
The Wolves (1-0 overall) will continue Prep League action by hosting Palos Verdes Chadwick on Friday, Dec. 9, at 3:15 p.m.
