Eagle Scouts Join Rose Parade Festivities

First published in the Jan. 5 print issue of the Outlook Valley Sun.

Local Eagle Scouts Sarah and David Aparicio, Brandon Hsu and Kate Aparicio carry the Mayor Award banner recognizing the honor received by the La Cañada Flintridge Tournament of Roses float at Monday’s Rose Parade. The Aparicios are members of BSA Troop 501 sponsored by the La Cañada Congregational Church while Hsu is a member of Troop 502 sponsored by La Cañada Presbyterian Church. To qualify as banner carriers, BSA scouts must attain the rank of Eagle during the prior year and interview for a spot in the Tournament Troop. Scouts who are selected for the troop attend numerous banner-carrying practices and social events leading up to the parade. They also perform the duties of color guard for the opening flag ceremony at the Tournament House on the morning of the parade.
