Tracy Tarver, a teacher and dean at St. Francis High School for the past 16 years, has been selected to be the school’s next principal, SFHS President and Father Tony Marti has announced. Tarver will assume the role on July 1, replacing longtime principal Tom Moran.
A search firm “identified and reached out to a broad spectrum of national and local Catholic school educators [and] their due diligence provided us with a well-qualified pool of internal and external candidates,” Marti said in a statement. “As the Search Committee considered input received from the community survey regarding leadership and the academic priorities for St. Francis at this time, Tracy stood out as an approachable, compassionate, equitable, forward-looking, Franciscan leader. She understands and values the strengths of our school, appreciates the history, traditions and virtues we hold dear, and is ready from day one to review our academic and co-curricular programs.
“She is looking forward to developing and overseeing a strategy that ensures we meet the needs of all our young men at this stage in their development as well as prepares them for college and the world in which they will live,” Marti added.
Tarver’s experience at St. Francis has included being an English teacher and dean of studies which has “allowed her to gain the enthusiastic support of her colleagues, earn the confidence of parents, and nurture respected relationships with students,” Marti said.
She is a graduate of Loyola Marymount University, having earned a B.A. in English, M.A. in secondary education, M.A. in Catholic school administration, as well as a California Clear Secondary credential. She has served on two Western Association of Schools and Colleges teams, was part of the WASC Visiting Team at St. John Bosco High School and has served on both the Holy Family High School and St. Bede School advisory boards.
“I am humbled and honored to be named as the next principal of St. Francis High School,” Tarver said in a statement. “I look forward to continuing to promote the strong Capuchin Franciscan tradition, values and academic excellence while also looking toward the future and seeking innovation and growth for our Golden Knights. I have been blessed to witness and benefit from the tremendous leadership of Tom Moran for the past 16 years I have been at St. Francis, and I am committed to maintaining and advancing the culture he has built.”
Tarver is married to her husband Scott, a St. Francis class of 1997 graduate. They have two children: 16-year-old daughter Colleen and 10-year-old son James.
