LCF Resident Leads Lecture at UCLA on New Data

First published in the Jan. 12 print issue of the Outlook Valley Sun.

La Cañada Flintridge resident Hilary Petrizzo is leading a lecture within the UCLA Earth, Planetary, and Space Sciences Distinguished Alumni Lecture Department on Jan. 26 starting at 6 p.m.
As an UCLA alumnus, Petrizzo will be leading a conversation on “Adjusting the Model: New Data Points in Subsurface Geology, Climate Science, and Life.”
She plans to show the ability to create a vision from available data and the possibility of being open to new data. In her career, she worked on oil rigs, to leading clean energy and carbon capture and sequestration projects.
“Being open to new data — new paths, new opportunities — has also served me well in my roles as mom and citizen,” Petrizzo said.
She has always been open to new opportunities and paths within the community like volunteering and partaking in leaderships roles for the PTA and Girl Scouts, which has taught her to get out her comfort zone and think critically.
The skills she acquired from volunteering in the community, helped to develop her skills in Geology at UCLA.
“This willingness to listen, ask questions, and accept new data points — adjust the model — came from a foundation set in my Geology education at UCLA,” Petrizzo said.
The talk will start with a reception at 6 p.m. and will follow with the lecture at 7 p.m. The event will be held in the UCLA Faculty Club Morrison Room.
