Boys’ Tennis: Flintridge Prep Holds Off Rival to Claim League Crown

The La Cañada High School varsity boys’ tennis team lost to visiting South Pasadena 10-8 in a Rio Hondo League match on April 19.
No. 1 singles Konan Sahara swept with scores of 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1 to account for all three singles victories, while the No. 1 doubles team of Spencer Moravec and Isaac Lai also swept with scores of 6-1, 6-2 and 6-4. The No. 3 duo of Cayden Chang and Blake Chang won a set with a score of 6-1, while the No. 2 tandem of David Lee and Aaron Pan added a 6-4 victory.
The Spartans defeated host Monrovia 17-1 in a league match on April 16.
The No. 2 doubles team of Pan and Lai earned a clean sweep with a trio of 6-0 scores, the No. 1 tandem of Justin Son and Sahara swept with scores of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, and the No. 3 duo of Cayden Chang and Blake Chang swept with scores of 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1. No. 2 Moravec swept with scores of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-3. No. 3 Lee won a pair of sets with scores identical scores of 6-0 before alternating with Jonah Stritmatter, who added a 6-1 victory to complete the sweep. No. 1 Mathew Ma won a set with a 6-0 score before alternating with Enzo Lee, who added a 6-0 victory.
LCHS (8-3 overall, 6-1 in league) will send Sahara, Moravec and Lai to compete in the Ojai Tournament from April 25 through April 27 before sending individuals to compete in the Rio Hondo League Tournament on April 29 and 30. The CIF Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on April 29 at 11 a.m.

FLINTRIDGE PREP
The Wolves secured a narrow 9-9 (86-81) victory at Pasadena Polytechnic on April 22 to secure the Prep League title.
No. 1 singles Jeremy Sieben swept with scores of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1. The No. 2 doubles team of Finley Shivaram and Logan Wu swept with scores of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1. The No. 1 tandem of Niko Christopoulos and Ray Cabrera swept with scores of 6-0, 6-1 and 6-3.
Flintridge Prep posted a 14-4 nonleague victory at Valley Christian High in Cerritos on April 19.
No. 1 Cabrera (6-0, 6-1, 6-1) and No. 2 Christopoulos (6-0, 6-1, 6-3) each swept their singles opponents, while No. 3 Evan Noh added a 6-0 victory. The No. 1 doubles team of Shivaram and Wu swept with scores of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1. The No. 2 tandem of Dilan Robbins and Jacob Chow (6-1, 6-2), and the No. 3 duo of Noah Mukherjee and Josh Hutaff (6-0, 6-3) each won a pair of sets.
The Wolves defeated visiting Palos Verdes Chadwick 12-6 in a league match on April 18.
No. 3 Sieben swept with scores of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-2, while No. 1 Christopoulos won a pair of sets with identical 6-0 scores. No. 2 Cabrera won a set with a 6-0 score before alternating with Albert Shi, who added a 6-1 victory. The no. 2 doubles team of Shivaram and Wu swept with scores of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1. The No. 1 tandem of Nico Stanton and Noh (6-1), and the No. 3 duo of Robbins and Chow (6-4) each won a set.
Flintridge Prep overwhelmed host Providence High in Burbank with a 16-2 league victory on April 16.
The No. 1 doubles team of Cabrera and Christopoulos posted a clean sweep with a trio of 6-0 victories. The No. 2 tandem of Shivaram and Wu swept with scores of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1. The No. 3 duo of Robbins and Mukherjee swept with scores of 6-0, 6-0 and 7-5. In singles play, No. 1 Sieben earned a clean sweep with a trio of 6-0 scores, while No. 2 Noh (6-0, 6-0) and No. 3 Hutaff (6-0, 6-0) each won a pair of sets.
The Wolves (16-1 overall, 6-0 in league) sent individuals to compete in the Prep League Tournament on April 23; the results were unavailable by the Outlook Valley Sun’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The CIF Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on April 29 at 11 a.m.

ST. FRANCIS
The Golden Knights lost at Sierra Canyon High in Chatsworth 14-4 in a Mission League match on April 16. SFHS previously suffered a pair of 18-0 league losses against Sherman Oaks Notre Dame and Harvard-Westlake High of Studio City on April 16 and 18, respectively. Individual statistics were not reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
St. Francis (3-14 overall, 2-7 in league) sent individuals to compete in the Mission League Tournament this week; the results were unavailable by the Outlook Valley Sun’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The CIF Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on April 29 at 11 a.m.
