All-League: Spartans’ Leckrone Named Most Valuable Pitcher

La Cañada High School athletes were recently recognized with All-Rio Hondo League awards in their respective sports.

The LCHS varsity softball team finished second in the league with an 8-4 record (17-9-1 overall) while advancing to the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division III playoffs.
The Spartans were led by senior captain Elle Leckrone, who was named the league’s most valuable pitcher. She tossed a team-high 72 1/3 innings with 92 strikeouts and a 2.71 earned run average. In 15 appearances, she produced an 8-4 record with six complete games and four shutouts while limiting batters to a .145 average. Offensively, Leckrone produced a team-best .507 batting average with a 1.702 OPS, 31 runs, 30 runs batted in and nine home runs.
Junior Bentley Labrecque and sophomore Laila Kazazian were each first-team outfielders, and sophomore Ava Perry earned a second-team outfielder selection.
Labrecque posted a .361 batting average with 12 RBIs and 12 runs, Kazazian finished with a .250 average, 15 RBIs and eight runs, and Perry had a .395 average with 17 runs, 14 RBIs and five doubles.
Senior captain Ashley Lovejoy was named second-team catcher, and junior Grace Rocco was an honorable mention selection.
Lovejoy finished the season with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage while throwing out eight batters behind the plate. Offensively, she had a .304 batting average with eight RBIs and six runs. Meanwhile, Rocco contributed a .348 average with 23 RBIs, 15 runs and two home runs.

The Spartans finished the regular season above .500 for the fourth time in the last five years with a 16-13 overall record but missed the CIF-SS playoffs after placing fourth in the league with a 2-6 record.
Junior Quest Swan, who was a first-team selection, racked up a team-best 290 kills (34.4 kill percentage) with 166 digs, 14 blocks, 12 aces and 11 assists. Senior Zach Evans, who was a second-team selection, finished with 205 kills (38.2 kill percentage), 41 blocks and 39 digs. Junior Jacob Que was an all-league honorable mention after posting 308 assists, 141 digs, 82 kills, 25 blocks and 21 aces.

Under first-year head coach Eddie Escandon, the Spartans finished last in the league with a 1-11 record (5-14-2 overall).
Sophomore Will Park, who earned a second-team catcher selection, led the team with a .296 batting average, 10 RBIs and nine runs. He threw out four baserunners and had a .956 fielding percentage as the LCHS backstop. Meanwhile, freshman Joe Bell was selected second-team pitcher after posting a 2.95 ERA across 21 1/3 innings with 23 strikeouts.
