Descanso Gardens Welcomes New ‘HWAJODO’ Exhibit

Descanso Gardens will host an opening reception of “HWAJODO: Flowers and Birds in Korean American Art,” its newest exhibition coming to the Sturt Haaga Gallery, on June 27 at 5-7 p.m.

Drawing from centuries-old traditions, HWAJODO explores the enduring themes of nature, particularly flowers and birds, that have been a focal point in Korean art.

HWAJODO is presented with community partner The Korean Cultural Center of Los Angeles and generously funded by the Pasadena Art Alliance. Additionally, programs are sustained by an endowment from Heather and Paul Haaga.

The exhibition will be on display through Sept. 29. At the opening reception, guests will be able to meet artists, enjoy a no-host bar and enjoy traditional Korean music. Entry into the event is free, and no registration is required.

Bird Walk Gives Garden Members a Tour

Descanso Gardens will be hosting a Member Bird Walk on June 23 from 8-9 a.m. Entry to the event is included in the cost of Descanso Gardens membership.

The activity will return monthly for “birders” of all levels. Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars and keep a tally of their bird count updated with the downloadable Descanso bird checklist.

Participation is exclusively for Descanso Gardens members. No reservations are required.
