Adams Hill Group Hosts First Arts Festival

First published in the Aug. 20 print issue of the Glendale News-Press.

The Adams Hill Neighborhood Association will sponsor its inaugural arts festival from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 28.
The arts festival will showcase the original works of Adams Hill residents, including paintings, mixed media, photography, jewelry, music and other types of visual and performance arts. The festival will be anchored at the Adams Square Mini-Park at 1020 E. Palmer Ave.
“We want to celebrate the talents of our local artists, draw people to our neighborhood and foster community,” said Jeremy Aluma, chair of the festival organizing committee, in a statement.
Approximately 14 artists — including 10 visual artists and four musicians — will exhibit and perform at the mini park. Another six artists are expected to exhibit work in their home studios in the Adams Hill neighborhood. Maps to studios will be provided in the mini park.
Additionally, there will be food trucks adjacent to the mini park and activities such as story-time, face-painting and an arts and crafts booth.
The schedule for the event is as follows:
• 3-7 p.m. — artists’ work on view in the Adams Square Mini-Park
• 3-6 p.m. — artists’ work on view in home studios, with maps available in the mini-park
• 3:45 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. — three local musical groups are scheduled to perform in the Adams Square Mini-Park
• 6-7 p.m. — performance of short pieces including readings and the conclusion of festival in the Adams Square Mini-Park
The artists’ works will be for sale. The Adams Hill Neighborhood Association is not charging entry fees or taking commissions on art sales. Sponsors for the event include KAFN Coffee Company, Associates of Brand Library & Art Center, Forest Lawn Museum, the Glendale Historical Society, Keith & Co. and Minuteman Press.
This event is free and open to the public. Parking in Adams Hill is limited, so ridesharing, walking and biking are encouraged.
