Babies in strollers kicked their feet, dogs strained against leashes, serious runners stretched. The crowd hushed during the national anthem. Then a loud speaker blared “Go!” and they were off. The fourth annual Great Chocolate Race, hosted by the Flintridge Guild of Children’s Hospital, was the most successful thus far. More than 750 people and about 50 dogs participated on Sunday. Water and chocolate treats at each pit stop made the 2.5k or 5k run/walk seem like a piece of candy for many. Festivities in La Cañada Memorial Park followed the race. In honor of Cinco de Mayo, a mariachi band played. Folks in the crowd tapped their feet to the beat as they enjoyed breakfast, received awards for the 5k event, and bid on silent auction items that Teens for the Advancement of Children’s Hospital provided. Children sported painted faces, jumped in a bounce house, and joined in other lively activities. Thanks to TACH, which hosted.
