Baseball: St. Francis Secures First Playoff Win Since 2006

The St. Francis High School varsity baseball team defeated visiting San Juan Hills High of San Juan Capistrano 2-1 in the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division IV playoffs on May 7.
Sophomore Aiden Mahoney pitched five innings with two strikeouts, while junior Noah Aguilar-Tanphanich pitched two scoreless innings with three strikeouts and no hits.
Junior Jordan Lewallen finished with a hit and two RBIs, while senior Jordan Viramontes, junior Dominik Hidalgo, junior Jackson Pratt and sophomore Bobby Milton each tallied a base hit. Senior Holden Deitch walked once and scored a run, junior Samuel Rodriguez walked twice, and senior John Calmette walked once.
The Golden Knights secured their first playoff win since 2006 with an 8-3 CIF-opening victory at Windward High in Los Angeles on May 2. Senior Lucas Favretto pitched a complete game, allowing three unearned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and no walks.
Lewallen went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, while Viramontes registered a double, two RBIs, two walks and a run. Pratt finished with a hit, three runs, three walks and a stolen base, while Deitch contributed a hit, three runs and two walks. Milton produced a hit, two RBIs and two stolen bases, while junior Dane Shepard recorded a hit, an RBI and a walk. Sophomore JT Martin tallied a base hit, while Calmette walked twice.
SFHS (17-13 overall) will host Paraclete High (14-13) for a CIF quarterfinal game on May 10. If victorious, the Golden Knights would advance to the semifinals on May 14.

FLINTRIDGE PREP
The Wolves lost to visiting Newbury Park 12-2 in their CIF Southern Section Division III opener on May 3.
Junior Rowan Schaeffer, who had a base hit at the plate, pitched two innings, sophomore Will Grable, who scored a run, pitched two innings with a pair of strikeouts and freshman Rocco Sablan pitched three innings. Junior Will Koh finished with a triple and two RBIs, freshman Nicholas Aparicio recorded a hit and a run, and freshman Spancer Rolfe produced a hit.
Flintridge Prep finished the campaign as Prep League co-champions with a 9-3 record (13-12 overall).
