La Cañada High School and Flintridge Prep were represented by standout individuals at the CIF State Swimming & Diving Championships at Clovis West High School on May 9 and May 11.
LA CAÑADA
In the boys’ competitions, Pierce O’Grady finished third in the 200-yard freestyle with an All-American time of 1 minute, 36.09 seconds. Pierce O’Grady also placed third in the 500 free with an All-American time of 4:24.29.
In the 100 butterfly, Ryan Makouar was sixth with an All-American time of 47.82. He also finished 11th in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:50.01. Jack Driscoll, competing in Paralympics Class II, finished 10th in the 50 free with a time of 56.32.
Meanwhile, Mia Bugarin placed 12th in the girls’ 500 free with a time of 4:53.51.
Notably in the preliminary competitions, the girls’ 400 free relay team of Meredith O’Grady, Lilli Perner, Avalon Sanders and Bugarin broke a school record after placing 30th with a 3:35.22 time.

FLINTRIDGE PREP
In the girls’ competitions, Natalie Walklett finished fifth in the 200 IM with a time of 2:01.53. She also placed eighth in the 100 breaststroke with an All-American time of 1:02.54.
Addie Gish finished 16th in the 100 backstroke and 200 free, posting times of 56.94 and 1:51.40, respectively. The 200 free relay team of Dylan Docter, Megan Lee, Walklett and Gish finished 15th with a time of 1:36.78.
