Spartans Boys’ Golf Claims CIF-SS Title

The La Cañada High School boys’ golf team recently captured their second CIF Southern Section Championship in three years after winning the Division II title at Lakewood Country Club on May 13.
The Spartans’ combined 18-hole score of 369 edged out second place Edison High School by five strokes.
The squad was led by Stanford-bound Logan Kim who carded a 72 for the day. Nolan Kuszyk, who is heading to Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, scored a 73, and Spartans freshman Jayden Jun matched Kuszyk with a 73-stroke finish. La Cañada seniors Ian Ricci (75), Cameron Hart (76) and Griffin Park (77) rounded out the strong team finish.
This marks only the second time in school history that the boys’ golf team has won a CIF title.
The Spartans went undefeated in Rio Hondo League play averaging a 19-stroke margin of victory over the six matches. Each match included all six teams from the Rio Hondo League. They won both of their nonleague matches averaging a 16-stroke margin of victory.
In early April they placed seventh out of 40 teams representing the top programs from the western United States at Taquitz Creek Golf Course in Palm Springs.
Kuszyk and Kim qualified for the CIF Southern Section Individual Championships at Temecula Creek Golf Course on May 16. The tournament served as a qualifier for the SCGA Southern California Regional Boys’ Golf Championship at Los Serranos Golf Course held on May 22.
