A Pride Month Proclamation

At the City Council meeting on June 4, the following proclamation was read by citizens in our community who spent months meeting with councilmembers to request a proclamation naming June 2024 as Pride Month. Although the council failed to issue a proclamation, we crafted one to be read into the record during public comment:
Whereas the citizens of La Cañada Flintridge desire an inclusive and welcoming community for all, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, national origin, or sexual orientation or identity,
Whereas many of the residents, visitors, students, workers, and business owners within the City of La Cañada Flintridge who contribute to the enrichment and vibrancy of our City belong to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) community,
Whereas, while the LGBTQ community has achieved greater inclusion, acceptance, and equality, more work remains to be done in order to celebrate and support the LGBTQ people of La Cañada Flintridge,
Whereas, June has become known as Pride Month in municipalities across the State of California and the United States of America, where LGBTQ people, their allies, and their supporters come together to support and celebrate one another,
Now, therefore, be it resolved that those who stand before you, citizens of the City of La Cañada Flintridge proclaim June 2024 as LGBTQ Pride Month and will commit to embodying inclusion and welcome for all.
