Angelo D. Chiarot, 97, passed away on Jan. 22, 2021. Born in Winnipeg, Canada to Italian immigrants Joseph and Antonietta on May 16, 1923, Angelo was brought to the United States as an infant when his parents moved to Los Angeles, California. After growing up in L.A., he moved with his parents and his younger brother, Roy, to La Canada in 1955. He lived the rest of his life in La Crescenta.
He is preceded in death by his devoted wife Stella; his parents; sister Vilma (Paneno); and brother Roy. He is survived by sister-in-law Jeanne Chiarot; children John LaJeuness (Andrea); Jo Ann Stanton (Richard); and Kathleen Wood (Allen); multiple grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nephews and nieces, including grand-niece Nichol Paneno, who lovingly cared for Angelo during his later years and days, and grandson Robert Wollenwebber, who made sure he never missed an event at the American Legion Post 288 in La Crescenta.
Angelo enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and proudly served for the duration of WW II. He completed five trans-Atlantic convoy escort crossings to various ports in North Africa by May, 1945. After the war he joined the Los Angeles County Fire Department where he worked as a heavy equipment operator.
Angelo was a cowboy at heart, and loved riding his horses. He will be remembered for his love of music, dancing, horses, Westerns, all-things Italian and the Montrose Christmas Parade. He will be missed by his family and many friends.
