July 10, 2020. Ann Marie is survived by her children Carl Herrmann III, Carron Riedman (Jim), Chris Herrmann (Pam), and Catherine Kerley (Chris); grandchildren Jon Michael Herrmann (Jen), Bridgette Diehl (Anthony), Mollie and Emilee Herrmann, Brandt, Jack and Claire Riedman, Jeremy, Mandy and Clayton Herrmann, Cameron and Chad Kerley; great-grandchildren Sebastian and Louis Herrmann and Madeleine Diehl. Sister Barbra Gardes Boyd (Laramie), Niece Laura Boyd McMurray, Nephews David, Greg (Tess), and Jimmy (Edie) and their families. She is predeceased by her parents Bernhardt and Helen Gardes.
Ann Marie spent her youth in Glendale, California, attending Holy Family until 1952. She graduated from UCSB in 1956 with a degree in education. While at UCSB she made lifelong friends and was an active member of the PI Phi sorority serving as President her senior year.
Her first teaching job took her to Newport Beach, where she taught 2nd grade. Ann continued teaching throughout the Los Angeles school system.
In retirement, Ann Marie was an active volunteer and devoted her efforts to Cabrini Literary Guild, P.E.O. and other projects supporting literacy for women, advancing educational opportunities, raising money for scholarships and books for Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.
An avid gardener, traveler, master bridge player and tennis partner, she grew up with a love of the outdoors and could fish a stream like a true angler. She happily shared these passions with her friends, children and grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank her caregivers and her countless friends for their support over these last weeks. Funeral services are private at Holy Family in Glendale, CA.
