Bonnie Allyn Sim Goris

Date of Death

Bonnie was born in Seattle, WA, to Addie Pride Sim and William T. Sim at Swedish Hospital. She passed away peacefully on September 26th at her home in Glendale, CA, with her husband and caregiver at her side.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father, and sister Judy Sim Kozanecki of Westminster, CO.

Bonnie attended the Seattle schools through the 10th grade, except for a brief time when living in Spokane, WA, and Chicago, IL. Upon completing 10th grade at Queen Anne High School, her family moved to Altadena, CA, where she finished 11th and 12th grades at Pasadena High School. It was here Bonnie found her love of music and sang in the school choirs. One of her fondest memories was playing the part of Laurie in the school musical, “Oklahoma.” After graduation she went onto Pasadena City College and eventually graduated from Los Angeles State College with a degree in education.

Her career started at John Muir Elementary in Glendale and continued for ten years, leaving only then to raise her two children. While working there, Bonnie continued her love of music directing the school choir for their annual holiday and spring concerts.  When her children began school, Bonnie went back to teaching as a substitute in the district for another 30 years.

Bonnie loved to travel, especially taking family road trips to National Parks. Several times a year the family drove to Denver, often making a real adventure by traveling the map’s blue roads. She loved Hawaii and the many trips to Europe. One of her most memorable trips was going on an African safari, and another was going through the Panama Canal. Then, of course, she loved going to the L.A. Philharmonic at the Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Hollywood Bowl.

Many hours were spent volunteering in Glendale’s First Lutheran Church office, where Bonnie gladly did anything asked of her. Her most enjoyable work of course was singing in the choirs and assisting the church school.

Bonnie leaves behind her devoted husband of 54 years, James F. Goris of Glendale, CA; son William (Bill) and his wife, Nancy; twin grandchildren, Elijah and Audrey of Aurora, CO; son James (Jimmy) of Grass Valley, CA; and niece Bonnie and nephew Stephen of Bloomfield, CO.

Bonnie will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She had such a wonderful kind and loving personality, always concerned about others. She now is in a much better spot with her Lord, with a clear mind singing with the heavenly choir of angels.

A service of Life will be celebrated on February 18th at 1:30 p.m. in the afternoon at Lutheran Church in the Foothills, at 1700 Foothill Blvd. La Cañada, CA.

In lieu of flowers please share a gift with a charity of your choice or to Children’s Home Society of California, 1300 West Fourth Street, Los Angeles, CA 90017 in memory of Bonnie.
