Brent Taylor Rider passed away at his La Cañada Flintridge home on Nov., 2, 2022 at the age of 80.
A celebration of Brent’s life will be held for friends and family at Annandale Golf Club in Pasadena at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 20th.
Brent was born on Oct. 30,1942, in Wash. D.C. He was the son of Alfred and Vivienne Rider and the older brother of the late Heidi Jarrett. The Rider family settled in Cleveland, Ohio and later in Memphis, Tenn.
Brent graduated from Purdue University and earned a master’s degree from Harvard Business School.
Brent began his financial career first in New York City (NYC) at First National City Bank, where he soon became part of their Venture Capital Company.
He met his wife Cheryl in NYC, and they married 53 years ago in her hometown of Camp Hill, Pa. One year after their marriage they moved to Santa Monica where Brent went to work for Union Bank.
At the age of 30, he was elected president of Unionamerica Capital Corp., the wholly owned venture capital subsidiary of Union Bank. He remained in that position until he launched his own company, El Dorado Ventures in 1986.
Brent was a curious man of multiple interests. He played golf, was a wood craftsman and a tinker of many projects. Most of all he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a loyal and humorous friend to many.
Brent leaves his wife, Cheryl and their three children Christian Rider and his wife Tina of Venice, FL. Heidi Rider Pollock of San Clemente and her twin sister Heather Rider of La Cañada. He also leaves six grandchildren, Derek Bethanie and Alexis Rider, Olivia, Allison and Andrew Pollock, and two nephews Ethan and Taylor Jarrett of North Carolina.
All friends are welcome to his Celebration of Life. Brent died of a neurodegenerative disorder that has no known cause or cure.
